Interested in Teaching Fencing?

The Omaha Fencing Club is thriving, limited only by the number of qualified instructors we have. All of the current Board members and Instructors are volunteers, and so their time is limited. Adding additional instructors would allow us to add additional classes. The Omaha Fencing Club will pay for training for those interested. Training is provided by the USFA through the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. If interested, contact James via email.

Open Fencing Friday Nights!

Starting on March 27, there will be open fencing Friday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Montclair community center. Cost is $30 for an eight-week session, or a $5 drop-in fee. Wednesday night open fencing is also included in the registration. To register, email Patrick at pdesimio@omahafencingclub.org.

Letter from the President

Dear Fencers and Families,

The Omaha Fencing Club (OFC) is looking to take fencing to the next level here in Omaha. For the last twenty years the OFC has been teaching the Olympic sport of fencing in Omaha, and this year we are making plans to expand the club. We have just incorporated the club, and are starting the process of becoming a non-profit, charitable organization. It’s an exciting time, and there’s a lot of planning, a lot of paperwork, and a lot of work in general to do. All instructors are volunteers, and at the moment all the work required to support the club and prepare for its expansion is done by us instructors. We need your help!

The first step in growing the club, and in becoming a non-profit, charitable organization, is to ask for volunteers for club secretary, club treasurer, and club vice-president. If you can help, please talk to me after class or email me at . We cannot offer any money for your time, but we can offer the satisfaction of helping the sport of fencing grow in our city.

Yours in fencing,
James Askew
President
Omaha Fencing Club

Ways to Improve With Open Fencing

Even though there are no organized lessons at open fencing, the chance to polish your techniques under the pressure of a match is one of the best ways to improve as a fencer. You’ll get better just by applying what you’ve learned in classes. If you want to improve even more, though, try a few exercises: Read more »

Buying Fencing Gear

As in most sports, getting your own fencing gear is eventually something you’ll want to do. The question isn’t so much whether to get your own fencing gear as it is when to get your own fencing gear, and there are two different answers: one for buying dry (non-electric) gear, and one for buying electric gear.
